WHAT IS REIKI? THE SPECIFICS OF THE REIKI ENERGY

THE SPECIFICS OF THE REIKI ENERGY

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an ancient art of healing for the highest good for all human kind. The term Reiki is a combination of two Japanese words: rei, which means "spiritually guided" and ki, which is the Japanese word for "energy."  A formal translation from Japanese of Reiki means the representation of the divine, the universal energy, or life force of the universe.

As the legend of Atlantis goes, this principle was taught in schools to treat the body and soul, but then this ancient form of healing was lost. It was later regained by the Japanese spiritual seeker and doctor, Mikao Usui, in the early 20th century during his 21 days of fasting and meditation. It was then transferred to his disciples for the prosperity, long healthy life and the welfare of all beings. Modern scholars identify the energy of Reiki with Prana in India, Chi in China, Ki in Japan, Mana in Hawaii, and Rauch in Judaism.

THE FIVE REIKI PRINCIPLES
Just for today, do not worry
Just for today, do not anger
Just for today, be filled with gratitude for the many blessings you get
Just for today, devote yourself to your work
Just for today, be kind to every living being
Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer
Pray these words to your heart and chant these words with your mouth

Reiki means universal energy (Rei = universal, ki = energy). "Rei" describes its boundless aspects and "KI" is the energy force that flows through all living beings.

Reiki is not the vital energy of a person (bio-energy). Reiki represents the universal energy and it corresponds to the energy body that is at the base of all the other energies in the universe. This energy is completely beneficial, being capable of healing any energetic disharmony or imbalance. Being a universal form of energy, it acts in the direction of maintaining the optimum equilibrium in the universe.

HOW DOES REIKI WORK?

Reiki is one of the more widely known forms of energy healing. Energy healing involves direct application of Ki for the purpose of strengthening the client’s energy system (aura). Ki (in Japanese) or Chi (in Chinese) is the term used by the Chinese mystics and martial artists for the underlying force the Universe is made of. Mystics in all cultures have talked about the physical universe being made of an underlying form of something, much as modern physics research is now coming to understand the Universe is made of energy which is subject to (or affected by) thought.

After being initiated by a Reiki Master, the practitioners’ energy aura is modified in such a way that the hands are now capable of sending (channeling) Reiki energy in a spontaneous way, continuously, without effort. This capacity or ability to heal others and oneself will not be lost or changed (raise or shrink) during the practitioner’s entire life.

DOES REIKI HAVE A PLACEBO EFFECT OR IS THERE MORE TO IT?

Stop and reflect for a moment. Imagine the implications of the universe around us made from energy, which can be shaped and manipulated by thoughts. This is the implication of both Quantum Physics and ancient Metaphysics.

Research studies have shown that praying improves the health of those who are prayed for, the focus of intent in prayer sends thoughts out in the form of "I wish such-and-so to happen", so if the world is energy subject to the power of thought then prayers must work (depending on how clearly and carefully you hold and elaborate on the prayers or thoughts). Is this a placebo effect?

Same applies to Reiki, where the practitioner is trying to heal the patient by directing Reiki energy. Since the word Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy, it (strictly speaking) refers to the energy and not the specific techniques taught by Reiki Masters, and hence cannot be put under a placebo effect.

WHAT OTHER HEALING METHODS CAN I COMPARE REIKI TO?

Some other forms of healing using Chi energy forces are Chi Gong and Pranic Healing. All (apparently) use the same energies, with the difference being techniques of application and an energy quality commonly known as vibration.

This term vibration is widely used in the "New Age" community and refers to the range in experience between the dense or low vibration of the physical world to the high vibration of the highest spiritual expression; while the term is inadequate to truly describe the differences, and while Reality is probably not a simple bipolar scale of experience, the term is descriptive of how the energy feels.
